CCTV Installation London — IP, NVR, 4G Hybrid Systems

IP NVR systems with PoE single-cable runs, 4MP and 8MP cameras, GDPR-compliant signage and cloud backup. Domestic, commercial and remote-site 4G hybrid installs across London.

CCTV in 2026 has decisively moved from analog DVR coax to IP NVR over Cat6. The shift simplifies install (one Cat6 carries power and data via PoE — no separate 12V run), pushes typical resolution up to 4MP for domestic and 8MP for commercial, and enables clean integration with cloud backup, app viewing and multi-site management. Electrician London specifies, installs and commissions IP NVR systems end-to-end.

Where commercial CCTV is installed, UK GDPR (Article 13) and the Data Protection Act 2018 require a visible signage notice naming the controller, the purpose and a contact route. The ICO also publishes domestic neighbour-privacy guidance — cameras must not point into a neighbour's garden, drive or windows beyond the boundary of your own property. Every install includes signage, an ICO registration walk-through where required, and camera-positioning compliance.

Why Electrician London

IP NVR + PoE switch

One Cat6 cable per camera carries power and data. Clean cable routes, less drilling, faster installs and easier future expansion.

BS 8418 commercial

Where remote monitoring or alarm-verified response is required, we specify and commission to BS 8418 detector-activated remotely monitored CCTV.

GDPR / ICO compliant signage

Every commercial install includes UK GDPR Article 13 signage and ICO registration guidance. Domestic installs follow ICO neighbour-privacy guidance.

Remote app + cloud backup

iOS / Android app config, cloud backup of incidents, and remote viewing tested at handover — including motion-zone tuning to cut false alerts.

Frequently asked questions

IP CCTV vs analog — which should I install in 2026?

IP NVR. Analog DVR is end-of-life for new installs: resolution caps at 1080p, cable runs need separate power, and most reputable manufacturers have moved range investment to IP. IP NVR carries up to 8MP per camera over a single PoE Cat6, integrates with cloud, and is easier to expand.

What is PoE and why does it matter?

Power over Ethernet — the NVR (or PoE switch) sends both power and data down a single Cat6 cable to each camera. No separate 12V DC run, no plug-top transformers, fewer failure points and a much cleaner install. Standard PoE budget on a 4-channel NVR is around 60W; on an 8-channel, around 120W.

Cloud backup or on-premises NVR only?

We recommend both. The NVR's local hard drive stores 14-30 days of continuous footage at full resolution. Cloud backup keeps incident-triggered clips off-site so a thief who steals the NVR can't take the evidence with them. Hikvision and Dahua both have native cloud options at modest monthly cost.

What signage does GDPR require?

Under UK GDPR Article 13 and DPA 2018, any commercial CCTV must display a visible notice stating: that CCTV is in operation, the purpose of recording, the data controller's name, and a contact route for data-subject requests. We supply compliant A4 and A5 signage as part of every commercial install.

Do I need to register with the ICO?

Businesses processing CCTV personal data must register with the ICO and pay the data-protection fee (currently £40-£2,900/year depending on tier). Domestic CCTV is generally exempt under the "household exemption" provided it only records within your own property boundary. We walk you through registration at handover.

My camera will catch the neighbour's drive — is that legal?

ICO guidance says domestic CCTV should be positioned and angled so it only captures your own property. If it inevitably catches a public area or a neighbour's land you become a "data controller" and lose the household exemption. We tune camera angles, masking zones and motion zones at install to keep you within the household exemption.

Do you offer 24/7 monitored CCTV?

We install BS 8418-compliant detector-activated systems that can be connected to a third-party monitoring centre. We do not operate the monitoring contract ourselves but install to the standard required by every major UK ARC (Alarm Receiving Centre).

Can the CCTV integrate with my intruder or fire alarm?

Yes. Most modern NVRs accept dry-contact inputs from alarm panels for incident-triggered recording or PTZ presets. We commission cause-and-effect at handover so an alarm activation triggers a clip-mark and notification.
